Welcome to "Your Best Dog" -- together we'll explore the joys and challenges of owning and caring for DOGS (as if you couldn't have already suspected that!)

In addition to helpful advice and reviews, from time to time, I'll likely be ranting about something I don't like -- and, I will give praise where I feel its deserving.

And, I encourage you to "speak your piece" when you feel so moved! Tell us about your Best Dog!

Giving Your Dog A Bone -- "Dangerous" Says FDA

The Food and Drug Administration usually focuses on health and safety issues related to people.  However, it recently issued a Consumer Warning which says, in part: “Bones are unsafe no matter what their size. Giving your dog a bone may make your pet a candidate for a trip to your veterinarian’s office later, possible emergency surgery, or even death.”

So, if you typically give your doggie a bone from dinner or your local butcher, maybe you should reconsider.  Instead, the FDA recommends using a chew product made especially for dogs.  There are a wide-range of different items that can safely be chewed on by your canine pet, whether you have a small dog or a very large dog!

A printer-friendly pdf is available from the FDA by clicking here.  Save your cherished pet from an emergency trip to the vet... No Bones about it!
